Last year I had the pleasure of styling a lovely winter wedding at Hornton Grange in Edgbaston, Birmingham. The colour scheme for the wedding was navy and blush pink and the bride and groom to be wanted to bring in some greenery to the venue to add some extra décor as well as some ceiling decorations in the main room.
Ceremony Decor
On my first consultation with the couple it was clear that they wanted to create a luxury feel to their wedding room and surrounding areas. I advised for the chairs to be left bare as they were a Chiavari style deep brown wood and looked beautiful as they were, just adding a blush pink chair sash onto the dark wood would just add that extra touch to the chairs and tie in the colour scheme in the room. The couple added in their own navy aisle runner which I added tall floor lanterns along each side to add some extra warm candle lights into the room and really add to the winter atmosphere.
Ceiling Decor
The couple also wanted to add ceiling décor into their wedding room. I have added a few paper lanterns and bunting strings to walls before but this was a new area of décor for me, so after chatting through all the details with the couple and visiting the venue to make sure I could deliver on this element of décor I was happy to take on the challenge! The couple wanted to create the illusion of floating lights and balloons with hanging ivy to walk down the aisle to and say their vows under. To create this look we used copper wire lighting which zig zagged along the ceiling and attached clear helium balloons to them, which was kindly provided and installed by the lovely Reana at the Party Drop. When all the ceiling, aisle and chair décor was in place the room looked stunning.
Foliage Finishes
To add in the greenery décor to the venue I knew exactly the lady to call to achieve the style the couple wanted to achieve…my favorite florist to work with, the lovely Judith at Pollen Floral Joy. Judith and her team came in and added masses of beautifully styled foliage to the staircase in the venue’s entrance, sills around the walls in the lounge area and beams in the glassed area outside the ceremony room. I followed Judith and her team around adding delicate wire string lights to all the greenery to add a little twinkling of warm light when the rooms darkened in the late afternoon/early evening.
Centrepieces
Judith and I then when back to add the centerpieces into the wedding breakfast room later that day. The couple decided on keeping the centerpieces low as the ceiling décor was installed in this room and they still wanted that to be the main focus in the room, so they opted for simple cylinder vases with floating candles surrounded by flowers and foliage.
This was one of my favorite weddings of 2019 as there were so many beautiful elements to work on as well as being able to do some thing completely different with the ceiling décor. It also seems to be a favorite for lots of others as I have received so many queries for this style of décor since.
