Although I do a lot of wedding styling, I also style private and corporate events and this week I would like to talk about a 1^st birthday party I styled at the Malmaison in Birmingham.

My clients contacted me at the end of last year to discuss options for their little boys 1^st birthday party. They had booked a room but wanted to add in the perfect décor to make it extra special.

After chatting with the parents, I learned that their little boy loved Thomas the Tank Engine, so I knew I had to incorporate that theme into the party room. This element also drove the colour scheme for the party – royal blue with a few lighter shades of blue and white.

The most important area of the room for my client was the cake table as they had an amazing show stopping Thomas the Tank Engine cake that they really wanted to show off. This area would also be the focal point for the main photos to be taken so they wanted an effective back drop. After chatting through a few ideas, we decided on a starlit back drop with balloon décor in front of it. Once all set up this really did have the desired effect and was a real focal point in the room.

The parents also wanted lots of treats for their guests, so I suggested adding my sweet cart into the room for the ultimate party treat. The sweet cart was decorated in blue décor to match the room.

The room was finished off with lots of balloons free standing around the room with a Thomas the Tank Engine balloon added onto of the tiers of blue and white balloons.

The final finishing touch was balloons placed either side of the party entrance to set the scene and the theme for the party room.

I absolutely loved styling this room it was so much fun and really was the perfect party room for a little boy’s 1^st birthday.
