Back in September of this year I dressed my first barn wedding. Many of my weddings before this one had been traditional style weddings with an elegant and classical look, so I was very excited to be booked for something a little different and create a rustic look.
I met the bride at the venue, the Jinney Ring in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. The Jinney Ring is a craft centre with lots of lovely little independent shops set in beautiful gardens and ponds. The Farmhouse restaurant at the Jinney Ring is a converted barn, and it was this building that we transformed into the wedding breakfast room.
As the barn already boasts beautiful décor with its wooden beams rustic charm, I had lots to work with and needed to ensure I used the right style of décor and props to compliment the barn perfectly.
We started off by discussing the chair and table décor. The wooden chairs with their spindle backs already matched perfectly with the barn so we decided not to cover those with chair covers so they could remain on display. The bride wanted hessian ad lace décor, so we went for hessian sashes. As the chair backs were not flat, we could not tie the sashes the traditional way as they wouldn’t lie flat against the chair and would be uncomfortable for the guests. Instead we decided to use the hessian sashes as a drop sash and tie them at the base of the chair sear with a white lace bow.
For the tables we used hessian table runners and log slices for the centrepieces with jars filled with candles and flowers, which fitted perfectly with the rustic theme of the wedding. The tables were finished off by adding some wooden heart shaped table confetti.
All the props around the room were wooden to fit in with the décor – we used a wooden post box and I had bespoke made ‘LOVE’ and ‘MR & MRS’ letters, which with displayed around the room with wooden created, fairy lights and candles.
We placed lots of jars varying in size and shapes around the room and filled them with candles to create a romantic feel to the room. Lastly, we used lots of gyp and foliage around the jars and candles to add the final finishing touches to the décor.
This wedding was the fastest turn around we have every done. As the restaurant is open to the public it doesn’t shut until 5.00pm and we had until 6.30pm to have the room fully dressed and ready for the wedding party. To add to this there was only myself and two of my team working on the room due to the small size of the venue and not wanting to crowd and get in the way of the venue staff also preparing the room. Just goes to show with lots of focus and hard work we can get anything done!
