Well what a time we find ourselves in! I have been a little quite on here lately as I have been adjusting to my new way of life as I’m sure everyone is. I’m sure many of you know I have two young children, so I have now added teacher to my CV as I attempt to home school them! Much of my work over the last few weeks has been juggling dates and schedules to accommodate all my lovely couples who have had to postpone their wedding day. Many of them have been determined to wed this year and it is this that has inspired me to write this blog on how make your spring/summer wedding styling plans now work for an Autumn/Winter wedding.
Colour Scheme
Many spring/summer weddings go for a lighter or pastel palette which doesn’t always work with the atmosphere and tones of an autumn/winter wedding. First of all, do not despair! You do not have to totally change your colour scheme or buy new items as you can easily adapt to a deeper shade. If you have chosen light or pale chair décor then speak you your venue dresser about changing to a deeper colour and the same for any table décor you have. For items you have purchased in a lighter colour look at adding some deeper tones to them to make them fit in with the new pallet. For example, bridesmaid dresses can be accessorised with a darker coloured belt, shawl or shoes.
Flowers
We all know that flowers are seasonal so you may need to have a rethink on what to use for your wedding flowers, not only in your bouquet but for also table centerpieces and any other floral décor you intend to have around the venue. If roses were your flower of choice, then never fear as the are available all year round but other flowers such as peonies are only available in the spring months. Have a chat with your florist for other options that are available, and you’ll be surprised at the choices there are. For an autumnal feel you can add in some dried flowers and grasses and for a winter wedding you can add in berries with lots of luscious greenery and furs.
Lighting
If you’ve had your heart set on blossom trees for that perfect spring wedding, then you may want to think about switching to something else for your centerpieces to fit in with the cooler season. Candles are a perfect addition to any autumn/ winter wedding and are so effective as the nights draw in earlier and your wedding room can be lit by candlelight. If you would like a more elegant and contemporary style, then choose glass holders with a mixture of shapes and sizes to add a variety of heights. If you would like a more classic and timeless look then opt for a chrome or metallic candle holders. Candelabras and lanterns are a great choice for a traditional style and adding florals with them can add in some colour.
