I absolutely love my job and all the different styles I get to create but my ultimate favourite is the elegant and classical style of decor. Looking back at all the weddings I have styled over the Autumn I think a great example of this style is at a wedding I was lucky enough to be involved in at the beautiful Botanical Gardens in Birmingham.
Being born and bred in Birmingham the Botanical Gardens has always been a well know venue to me and a very sought-after venue for weddings in the area, so I was thrilled when I was booked to dress my first wedding there for a September bride.
The lovely bride knew exactly what colour scheme she wanted but was unsure on her table décor. I had lots of conversations with her about her style and the look she wanted to create for the room……..my brief was elegant and classical with navy colour scheme.
The bride really liked the idea of using candles with glass candles sticks so I suggested using a variety of glass candle and tea light holders to give a variety of height and shapes. The bride also mentioned that she liked the idea of using some floral arrangements on the tables also, so to work with the glass candle holders I suggested a variety of glass jars with flowers to be mixed in with the candles and candle holders. We decided on ivory flowers to match the bridal parties’ flowers and to also fit with the brief of classic and elegant as ivory works perfectly with navy to create a classic timeless look.
As this room and venue is a real show stopper, I knew I needed a top florist to help me create the look I wanted to achieve so I turned to the very talented Judith at Pollen Floral Joy. I love to work with Judith on my weddings – we have worked on a few weddings and many projects over the last 12 months and have built up a great relationship so it’s always a treat for me to work with her.
As the tables for this venue are long and oval, I designed the tables décor to go along the tables rather than be placed in the middle of the tables so there were no empty spaces and the décor flowed along the length of each table. To add the final finishing touches to the tables I added glass stones in amongst the candle holders and jars.
As all the glassware was clear and the candles and flowers were white/ivory the only colour in the room was the navy chair sashes, which really stood out and made a statement and tie in perfectly to making the room décor look classic and elegant.
